The aim of this project is to create an environment for the treatment of the psychiatric casualties of war.

The host building was partially destroyed by a fire and has since remained unoccupied leaving it to decay over time. I have attempted to create a connection between the occupants and the building by leaving the scars of the building. As you move deeper into the building the old scars begin to fade and the new structure reveals itself subtly becoming a creative and social atmosphere helping the veterans to begin the healing process.

The aim of this is to signify the building and the user going through the healing process together.

The scars of the building show its previous use and the damage caused by the events which occurred during its life. The exposure of the building's scars is intended to reflect the veteran's trauma and symbolize the destructive experience - its life does not end there.

The relationship between the building and the veteran encourages an instant rapport between the two, helping the veterans to quickly drop their guard and trust the therapists facilitating as quick a recovery as possible.
