In this project I set out to develop a product that would help to make better use of space in small to medium sized dwellings whilst taking account of contemporary patterns of living. This table was originally conceived as being sold as a set of four. Realising that many activities in modern households centre around the sofa, each can be used to provide a convenient surface which can overlap a sofa or bed. Collectively, the mobius like twist enables them to be stacked when not in use or they can be arranged in the centre of a room where each forms a quarter of a more elaborate centrepiece.
Design has been described by Christopher Alexander as the search for the best fit between the context of a problem and the form of any proposed solution. Perhaps it is because of my art background that I tend to take a playful exploration of form as much as any rigorous examination of context as a starting point in search of this goal.
